A New Business Hub for Hawley: The Golden Prairie District

We're excited to share more good news for Hawley! As featured in a recent WDAY News story by reporter Hunter Schwartz, business is booming on the west side of town, and residents are calling it the "Golden Prairie District."
Six new businesses have opened in the district since April, with the newest, Klass Cutz Barbershop, celebrating its grand opening just before the school year started. Co-owner Kenny said he wanted to fill a real gap in town: "I had a vision like to which places that doesn't really have a barber shop, and we're glad we were the first, the first barbershop in Hawley."
Local land developer and Hawley resident Austin Peterson has been behind the growth. About 18,000 cars pass the development on U.S. Highway 10 every day, and Peterson says the goal is to finally give that traffic a reason to stop. "Hawley's always been here as a community, right? And this traffic has always been here, but now we're giving individuals... we're giving that traffic on Highway 10 a reason to stop and pull into Hawley," he said.

The district is quickly becoming a one-stop destination for services Hawley residents used to have to drive miles for:
Klass Cutz Barbershop — the town's first barbershop, opened this year
Hang Ten — a party and event venue that opened in April
Lakes Country Wraps — a vehicle wrap and detailing business started by 17-year-old owner Bryce Skogen, who moved his shop to the district in April
Lexie Jo's Photography — run by a local high schooler who's already booking clients from Fargo and Grand Forks while covering all of Hawley's school sports
Milo's Muddy Paws - a DIY pet wash carefully designed to make everyday bath time mess- and stress-free.
Skogen said the growing lineup of neighbors has been part of the appeal. "I've been hopping around from shop to shop, kind of trying to find my place. But now that we've been here... I've been loving it here. It's awesome to see the other businesses moving into the area, the town that's growing, and yeah, have some cool neighbors out here."
Peterson sees it as the start of something bigger for Hawley. "This is a testament to the fact that there's a lot of those core services that have kind of been pent up a little bit. So we are creating, we're creating a vibe. We're creating what we call an uptown atmosphere."
